Highland Cattle in Tasmania
Highland Cattle thrive in Tasmania's changeable climate, they love the cold winters and lose their long woolly coats to enjoy out hotsummer.
There are 20 members of The Australian Highland Cattle Society in Tasmania, there are also many more un-registered commercial breeders.
Our breeders are all friendly people with a common interest - Highland Cattle, and most - the love of all things Scottish. We are a fairly close knit grouphelping each other from lending bulls, to passing on interested buyers to other breeders. We enjoy getting together generally twice a year, which is educational as well as very social!
Topics of interest at field days can be: artificial breeding, pasture improvement, marketing, promotion, cattle handling, show preparation etc
These days are generally held on a breeder's property, so it is a great opportunity for the breeder to show off their cattle and interesting for others to see different methods of farming in other areas of the state.
